How to prepare a strong application

  • Reflect on your motivation – share why this programme matters to you and how it aligns with your long-term career goals.
  • Show your readiness – highlight the steps you’ve taken to progress and the barriers the programme could help you address.
  • Think about your influence – describe how you hope to use the programme not only for yourself, but also to inspire others and create wider change.
  • Be authentic – let your voice and story come through. This is about you, your journey, and your aspirations.

Tips on identifying an Ally

In order to take part in the 100 B programme, academic and professional services applicants must be endorsed by an Ally. (Allies are not part of the PhD experience). When thinking about how to identify an Ally:
  • Choose someone at department, faculty, school, or division level with the authority to influence workload, priorities, and decision-making. This could be your line manager.
  • Look for a person who is respected, open, and committed to equity and change.
  • Remember: an Ally doesn’t need to share your background; what matters is their ability and willingness to act.
See below a guide to aid your discussion with potential Allies to seek their endorsement.
